What are political forums? It is generally a membership internet site set up to discuss different events, different views and breaking news in the field of politics. The better forums are the ones that have no political bias i.e. they are not pro Democrat or Republican but are set up with the intention of encouraging open and honest debate with members having various viewpoints.
The owner and other staff on the website must encourage exchange of opinions as this will make the site more popular and therefore will attract more visitors and resulting members. But they must also moderate the political forums correctly. While arguments are normal when anybody talks over politics, it shouldn't be a justification for a participant to abuse another. The moderator's role in a political forum is to prevent the discussion descending into personal assaults. At the same time they do not wish to cut off an interesting argument. It is not an easy job but many people can identify the difference between someone who is expressing a point of view and those that are just trying to be troublesome.
There is a reason why you probably should never talk about sex, religion or politics at a party. Individuals tend to have very strong opinions on the subject. Some individuals educate themselves regarding the various issues and come to political forums to talk about these issues. They are ready to listen to what the other people think and will on occasion be convinced by the conversation to change their views on that particular issue.
But you also have those individuals who have followed a particular party because that is what their family always voted. They may not completely understand exactly why they've been a Democrat or a Republican but they will defend the policies of the relevant party to the last. These people have a tendency to start quoting the Constitutional right to freedom of speech when you try to argue the point. At times it is pointless trying to get into a debate with them and the best thing is to leave and discover political forums populated with people who are a lot more open minded.
