Chinese Herbal Acne Treatment
By: La HunterChinese medicine, has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years to effectively combat diseases, fight infections, heal wounds, and relieve aches and pains. In recent years, the practice of Chinese medicine has spread to the west, where it has been widely accepted as a reliable alternative, or complement to conventional medical procedures. Traditional Chinese Medicine includes the use of herbal products, acupuncture and massage therapy to establish a regular flow of qi, or energy, throughout the body and a proper balance of yin and yang.
Practitioners of Chinese medicine view the body as a whole that needs to be kept in balance. Rather than treat the symptoms of a condition, therapists search for the root of the problem and treat it accordingly. This view is quite radical compared to conventional practices, where symptoms are treated with chemical compounds that provide only temporary relief.
Traditional Chinese Medicine, considers acne to be the result of an internal imbalance of yin and yang, which is probably caused by toxins producing excessive heat. The aim of the practitioner would be to reduce toxins, cool the blood, and induce proper digestion and intestinal functions. Natural herbs such as, honeysuckle, milk thistle and dandelion, amongst many others, are often used to effectively treat acne. After diagnosis, a TCM practitioner will tailor the necessary herbal preparations to suit the individual needs of the patient.
Chinese herbal preparations that have been prescribed by a qualified TCM doctor, have proven to be safe and effective, without any resulting side effects. Chinese herbs come in many different forms, and are often administered in conjunction with a course of acupuncture.
A change in diet may also be recommended as certain foods can exacerbate an acne condition. Fatty foods, coffee, alcohol, sugar, chocolate, soft drinks, dairy foods, red meat, seafood, particularly crustaceans, should be avoided. Fruit and vegetables are a good alternatives as well as plenty of water, the therapist will provide a custom diet for the individual patient.
Avoid touching your face with your hands, except when washing. Wash the skin gently, no more than twice a day and pat dry with a soft towel without scrubbing the skin.
Chinese herbal acne treatment, may or may not take longer to relieve the symptoms associated with acne bouts than conventional topical treatments, but it will ultimately provide lasting results without any nasty side effects.
