Extra Care For Aging Skin Prevents Wrinkles

By: La Hunter

As our bodies age and start to lose their youthful zip, the need to care for our skin rapidly increases as we get older. The times of naturally looking young are past, and it's not only because we may have put on a few pounds or lost a little hair. Our aging skin becomes fragile, loses it's elasticity, wrinkles appear, and it takes on a dull, drab appearance, as it cries out for extra care, and some special attention.

The amount of care that has been given to our bodies during past years, and the lifestyle that we have lead, will certainly reflect upon the condition of our skin as we get older. As we age, our skin becomes more prone to sun damage, dries out and loses it's resilience. This will allow wrinkles to form across the forehead, crows feet to appear around the eyes and lines to become visible on the upper lip and corners of the mouth. Our complexion is also inclined to lose its natural tone and blotches may appear on the forearms face and neck.

Excessive exposure to the sun during one's life will result in a dry skin that has the appearance of tanned leather, which is caused by being constantly dehydrated, and the ultimate loss of blood circulation through damaged capillaries. A lower level of collagen in our bodies will make small capillary blood vessels more prominent and unsightly. Collagen is a protein that is naturally produced, and carries out essential functions in most parts of the body. Collagen works in conjunction with keratin and elastin and is responsible for keeping the skin intact.

Generally, outbreaks of acne or similar skin disorders are not common when we reach old age, as our hormonal system becomes stable and our glands produce less sebum. This is not really a bonus, as our skin will need extra care to keep it moist and supple, and to prevent wrinkles from forming. There are many preparations on the market that will help you to keep your complexion looking healthy and wrinkle free.

Many people find that the skin care products they have been using in the past are beginning to irritate them, and they need to find alternative preparations that contain mild ingredients.

If you are one of those, who needs a completely different range of products to care for your aging skin, you would be well advised to consult a beauty therapist to have your skin type and condition checked. You will be given professional advice on how to give your skin some extra care, by using a range of products that will be suit you, and your pocket.
