Pregnancy Acne Indicates Baby Gender

By: La Hunter

Well, does an outbreak of acne during the early stages of pregnancy indicate the gender of the expected baby? For those of you who are lucky enough to have a great Grandmother to ask, then the answer would be definitely yes, the child is a girl! And, if your bout of acne came out of the blue, then probably she also told you that you were expecting before you had tested positive.

Unfortunately, these types of predictions have no substance, even though they occasionally turnout to be correct. There are many circumstances that can trigger a bout of acne, including your diet, your lifestyle, the environment and an hormonal disturbance. Of course, when a women falls pregnant her hormonal activity increases, and this is generally accepted as the reason why some women suffer from bouts of acne when they are expecting.

Some of the old beliefs are that an acne outbreak around the chin, or across the shoulders, indicates that the unborn child will be a girl, because the mother's hormones are more active when she is carrying a girl than they would be, if she were carrying a boy. This of course, is just another tale, and any connection between an acne outbreak, and the gender of an unborn child, is purely coincidental.

A small percentage of women who suffer from a cluster of pimples around the chin and upper lip could possibly be suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome, particularly if they have irregular periods, are overweight or have a family history of this disorder. The exact cause of PCOS is as yet unknown, however research has indicated that the condition may have genetic links.

Women affected by PCOS, have an an increased amount of the male hormone androgen, which apparently causes an acne outbreak on the face as well as some hair growth. It interferes with ovulation and renders the afflicted woman infertile. Any woman who has symptoms of this nature should seek professional attention for a check up, because if PCOS is left untreated it can develop into diabetes, heart attack or stroke. Provided that the condition is diagnosed in it's early stages, and correctly treated, it will have no life threatening consequences.

The only way to foretell the gender of your unborn child is to be medically examined. Expectant Moms are required to have an ultrasound during the first trimester, and this is the perfect opportunity for you to find out the gender of your baby.

Rest assured that a bout of acne during your pregnancy, is no indication of your baby's gender and, in any case, the news will be good whether it is a boy or a girl
