Take No Chances With Acne Fulminans
By: La HunterAcne attacks can range from minor outbreaks of pimples, whiteheads or blackheads, to extremely severe, debilitating cases of acne fulminans. Acne can strike anyone at any age, however, people are more likely to initially suffer bouts of acne during adolescence. The disease, is the result of the over production of sebum, skin pores becoming blocked with debris, and the trapped oil erupting from beneath the skin, forming nodules, cysts and pimples.
Acne fulminans is quite rare, it generally strikes young teenagers that have been suffering from extreme bouts of acne vulgaris which, prescribed medication has failed to control. This situation, coupled with other factors, such as a liver disorder, immune system deficiency or intolerance to specific treatments can bring about a severe attack of the disease, which can strike quite suddenly.
Preliminary symptoms of acne fulminans are aching joints, inflamed knees, swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck causing restricted movement of the head, and acne outbreaks, which may develop into ulcerated sores on various parts of the body. These symptoms are accompanied by fever, appetite loss, lethargy and deterioration of muscle mass. The condition should not be ignored and must be brought to the attention of a medical professional. Advanced cases of acne fulminans may require hospitalization, where specialized care and prolonged therapy can be provided.
Make no mistake, this is a very serious and debilitating disorder that can leave the sufferer with deep scars and permanent physical impairment. The disease can cause permanent damage to the bone structure and inner organs of the body, as well as cover the body with unsightly lumps, painful sores and irregular scars. Wounds on the upper body can develop into large ulcerated sores that are slow to heal and make it difficult to lay down to rest, or to perform basic tasks.
A daily skin care routine should be adopted at an early age, and if acne zits start to appear, just remember that the skin is under attack and requires extra care to help overcome the disorder. Gently wash the face and body with lukewarm water using only the hands and mild natural soap. Gently pat dry with a soft towel, don't rub the skin with a towel or flannel. If the face needs to be shaved, gently use an electric razor without rubbing the face hard. Keep your hair and your hands away from your face, as much as possible.
Forms of acne, if neglected, can develop into severe outbreaks of painful, ugly nodules that can cause irreparable damage to the skin, which may result in not only lifelong scars, but permanent psychological damage. Acne can also substantially affect a sufferer's social and professional life, as well as inhibit his natural abilities.
Don't take any risks with persistent acne, seek the services of a dermatologist at the earliest opportunity.
